Bulalacao, Bulalacao Island, Coron, PalawanĪ South Sea pearl is pearl produced by the Pinctada maxima mollusk. The company also has its own office in Manila as well as in Iloilo City.
The pearl farm is basically the open sea that are in between these islands. Hikari SSP Corporation is directly based in Coron, Palawan of which they have several facilities in different islands. Basically, the company is the local arm of the Japanese company Calamian Pearl Company, LTD ( ) which produces and exports high quality Golden South Sea Pearls. The company itself still employs a great number of well trained Japanese pearl technicians who work and train with their Filipino counterparts. Hikari SSP Corporation founded in 1992 is one of such Filipino pearl culture farms which benefitted from the technological knowledge passed on from its Japanese mentors. The Japanese pioneered pearl culture farm technology and spread their knowledge all throughout the Southeast Asia including the Philippines. Before, Filipinos settled for diving and gathering wild shells from the deep sea floor.
Pearl culture farming is a relatively new industry in the Philippines.
